Jon Sheldon: “Chesapeake man believes DNA proves innocence in 1977 rape”

Sheldon, Flood & Haywood partner Jon Sheldon was recently profiled by the Richmond Times-Dispatch for his work in investigating the case of Roy Watford, who 32 years ago pled guilty to a rape he did not commit. With Jon’s assistance, Mr. Watford has obtained new DNA testing results establishing his innocence.

“There are at least three tragedies in this case: First, that (the victim) was raped; second, that the rapists have never been brought to justice; and third, that Roy Watford was wrongfully convicted of raping (her) and has lived with this violent felony on his record for thirty-eight years,” wrote Sheldon to the justices.
